1Joseph was brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, a eunuch of Pharaoh and captain of the executioners, an Egyptian man, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there.2And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man. And he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.3And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD was making all that he did prosper in his hand.4And Joseph found favor in his eyes, and he served him, and he appointed him over his house and all that he had he gave into his hand.5And it was from then when he had entrusted him in his house and over all that he had, and the LORD blessed the house of the Egyptian on account of Joseph. And there was the blessing of the LORD in all that he had in the house and in the field.6And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand, and he knew nothing about it except the bread that he was eating. And Joseph was handsome in form and handsome in appearance.7And after these things his master's wife lifted her eyes to Joseph and said, "Lie with me."8And he refused and said to his master's wife, "You see, my master does not know what is in the house with me, and he has put all that he has into my hand."9He is not greater in this house than me, nor has he withheld from me anything except you, because you are his wife. How then will I do this great evil and sin against God?10And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he did not listen to her to lie beside her, to be with her.11And on that day he came into the house to do his work, and there was no man of the household there in the house.12And she seized him by his garment, saying, "Lie with me." And he left his garment in her hand and fled and went outside.13And when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled outside.14She called to the men of her house and said to them, "See, he has brought a Hebrew man to us to mock us. He came to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice."15And when he heard that I raised my voice and called out, he left his garment beside me and fled and went outside.16And she left his garment beside her until his lord came to his house.17And she spoke to him according to these words, saying, "The Hebrew servant whom you brought to us came to me to mock me."18And when I lifted my voice and called out, he left his garment beside me and fled outside.19And it was when his lord heard the words of his wife which she spoke to him saying, "According to these words your servant did to me," and his nose burned.20And Joseph's lord took him and gave him to the house of the prison, the place where the king's prisoners are imprisoned, and he was there in the house of the prison.21And the LORD was with Joseph and extended steadfast love to him and gave him favor in the eyes of the chief of the prison house.22The prison warden put all the prisoners who were in the prison in the charge of Joseph, and he was responsible for everything done there.23The prison warden did not inspect anything in his charge, because the LORD was with him, and the LORD made whatever he did prosper.
